Proudly Supporting all Military Families with a Special Needs Dependent
Candy has been an Army wife for 14 years. She currently lives with her family at Joint Base Lewis McChord in Tacoma, Washington, but will be PCSing soon to Fort Bliss, Texas.
If Candy could go back in time before becoming a military spouse to give herself advice, she says she it would tell herself not to “lose your basket” along the way, and if you do, hold your head high and never give up. When asked what is her favorite part of being a military spouse, Candy said it is the ability to give back to her military community by being an advent force of advocacy in our special needs community at large.
Candy’s work in the Special Needs community began many years ago. She proactively teaches her son, Sevastian, who is non-verbal, effective ways of communication, such as sign language, PECS system, reading and writing. She participates in all of his clinical and educational therapies, and advocates strongly for communication skills. Candy volunteers and passionately advocates for all families with a dependent with disabilities.
The Military Special Needs Network honors and salutes Candy as the Military Spouse of the Day! We thank you for being such a wonderful military spouse and an amazing advocate for special needs!
