Proudly Supporting all Military Families with a Special Needs Dependent
Today is such a great day to celebrate: Today, our Military Spouse of the day is celebrating her twelve year wedding anniversary with her husband James! The Creighton family is currently stationed at Naval Base Kitsap, in Silverdale, WA.
Being a part of our amazing military community is Allison’s favorite part of be…ing a military spouse. “The acceptance and instant camaraderie are unparalleled. No matter where we are from, what our religious or political beliefs, we are military spouses and support each other,” she says.
If she could go back and give herself advice before becoming a military spouse, Allison said she would say “sit back and enjoy the ride a bit more.” She also says that she would advise to “rely on the seasoned military spouses. They really do want to help and it isn’t a sign of weakness to ask for help. People can’t help unless you ask for it”.
Allison talks about how easy it is to get caught up in preparing for “next”. The next deployment, the next PCS move, the next weekend. She advises to all military spouses to “try to focus more on the “now”. This is an amazing journey and it goes by much faster than you realize.”
The special needs community is very dear to Allison’s heart. Three of her four children have special needs. Allison says “Being a special needs mom is not too much different, just a bit messier. I try to bring some humor to the chaos by blogging.”
The Military Special Needs Network honors and salutes Allison Creighton as the Military Spouse of the Day! We thank you for being such a wonderful military spouse and an amazing advocate for special needs!
