Proudly Supporting all Military Families with a Special Needs Dependent
Rachel is an Air Force wife stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas. She and her husband have been married for 6 years.
Rachel’s favorite part of being a military spouse is the incredible sense of family there is within the military community. She says “Whether your day is good or bad, there is ALWAYS some one to s…hare it with… even when that person can’t be your spouse.”
If she could go back and give herself one piece of advice before becoming a military spouse, Rachel would tell herself to appreciate the things she has. “No matter how frustrated you get, no matter how bad you think your situation is… some one always has it worse.”
After her son was diagnosed with Autism in February, Rachel took the news harder than she expected. Although she had considered her son Autistic for over a year, it was now real. She now offers support and information to those entering a the same situation. “You can never prepare yourself for how you’ll feel when it’s made official. One family in particular suspects their son may also be autistic and they’ve contacted me in distress in times of chaos and over-stimulation for their son. I gave the best advice I could to assist them and was thanked multiple times following. Knowing I can help in any capacity makes it worth it for me. If I can help even just ONE person, I feel like I’ve paid it forward.”
The Military Special Needs Network honors and salutes Rachel French as the Military Spouse of the Day! We thank you for being such a wonderful military spouse and an amazing advocate for special needs!
