Proudly Supporting all Military Families with a Special Needs Dependent
Jessica is a Navy wife, married to her Sailor for eight years. The Huckaby family currently lives in Norfolk, Virginia.
Jessica’s favorite part of being a military spouse is family time and alone time with her husband. “Spending time with him never ever gets old.”
If she could go back and give herself advice befor…e becoming a military spouse, Jessica said she would tell herself that there is a “difference between where you are from, and where your home is. Your home is with your husband, even if it is 2500 miles from ‘where-you-are-from’”.
Jessica is a remarkable advocate for her daughter, who has Down syndrome, as well as others with special needs. “I see the things in the world that will hurt my daughter and other people with special needs and I want to change them. I want Mattie to grow up accepted and loved for who she is and not judged because of her diagnosis and I want that for other people with disabilities too. I never want another person with special needs to hear unkind words or to know what it is like to be bullied.”
Jessica strives to make her dream of change a reality through her work with Military Special Needs Network. Her incredible ability to listen, inspire and encourage members and her fellow board members alike are vital to the success of the Network. Jessica makes a difference in the lives of every member with whom she is in contact. Her caring “family approach” allows Jessica to mentor members in need and follow through to see them become successful, thriving, and ready to advocate for their special needs family member.
The Military Special Needs Network honors and salutes Jessica Huckaby as the Military Spouse of the Day! We thank you for being such a wonderful military spouse and an amazing advocate for special needs!
