Proudly Supporting all Military Families with a Special Needs Dependent
Laura is an inspirational Navy wife stationed at Naval Base Kitsap. Not only is Laura a mother to two active children, she is working on her Master’s Degree, AND is employed through the local school district! She and her husband, Steve, have been married 15.5 years.
When asked what her favorite part of being a military spous…e was, Laura reflected upon the geographical and emotional distance that military families often experience from their extended families. Laura has found that she has been able to “[Find] friends that are more like family” through their moves.
If Laura could go back and give herself a piece of advice about military life it would be to “go to the port calls when you can and enjoy yourself. Once you have kids it is much harder to travel.” This is even more so the case with children on the Autistic Spectrum.
Outside of working for the school district, being on the Board for MSNN, being a Cub Scout leader and attending college full time, Laura is an amazing advocate for people with special needs. When asked why she is an advocate for others, Laura said “Many people with special needs do not have the ability to fight for their own rights so it is up to the parents to do that for them. My kids will never completely understand the world around them due to autism so it is my job to pave the way.”
The Military Special Needs Network honors and salutes Laura Loup as the Military Spouse of the Day! We thank you for being such a wonderful military spouse and an amazing advocate for special needs!
