Gift Guidance for Special Needs Families

ImageOne of the unique challenges special needs families face this time of year is explaining gift buying for special needs children to our extended family. As military families, our interaction and connection to family members may be scant at best, but their love for our children persists. The expression of their love may include gift giving. Often times, our family members ask for guidance on purchasing appropriate gifts for our kiddos. MSNN is proud to share these guides compiled by some fabulous bloggers:

Jessica at FourPlusAnAngel shares not only a gift guide, but a guide written by her autistic daughter. Find out from an autistic teen what gifts are coveted! It’s the Ultimate Gift Guide for Kids/Teens with Autism…by a teen with autism, Ashlyn.

Here’s a great list on Amazon.com from ShesAlwaysWrite. Not only is this a great list of items, being on Amazon, it’s incredibly convenient!

Lisa Quinones-Fontanez of AutismWonderland has a list featured on Babble: Holiday Gift Ideas for Kids with Autism. The guide focuses on, “developmentally appropriate…toys that serve a purpose.”

Mama Fry has put together a list of her favorite things, and, in true Fry fashion, the Fries have added to her suggestions down in the comments.

And, of course, for advice, tips and helpful suggestions on avoiding sensory overload, managing stress and expectations, craft ideas, and holidays with extended family members, check out the 2013 MSNN Holiday Guide.
