Proudly Supporting all Military Families with a Special Needs Dependent

Military Spouse of the Day: Robyn Day

Robyn DayOur Military Special Needs Network Military Spouse of the Day is Robyn Day, an Army National Guard spouse, currently stationed in Colorado.  Her best experience with the military has been learning from the military community that has come before her.  “There is so much knowledge out there and we all can support each other if we extend our hearts from our own experiences.”  Robyn’s biggest obstacle with the special needs world has been living in a small mountain town with little-to-no services for military families.  Robyn’s son was diagnosed with autism at two-and-a-half years old, and then with cancer six months later (he’s a cancer survivor today!).  With spouses away so frequently, there were some difficult years for Robyn.

We asked Robyn how she de-stresses and she said, “I joke about this, but it’s true.  I watch reality TV.  I laugh and realize my life is pretty great.”  For self care, Robyn tries to get a manicure and a pedicure every few weeks, because she realizes that “me” time is extremely important.

Robyn’s best advice for new families in the special needs world in the military is “Ask questions, ask for help, and be informed.  Tings change so rapidly in the military and it can be overwhelming.  A diagnosis is just an unlocked door to get services and advocate for your child.  This is true for both the military and the civilian world.”

The Military Special Needs Network honors and salutes Robyn Day, our Military Spouse of the Day.  We thank you for being such a wonderful military spouse and an amazing advocate.

Robyn has an indomitable spirit and a generous heart. She is an awesome advocate for her children, a caring friend, and a supportive and loving spouse. She can stand up and fight when needed and then turn around and teach/support educators, service providers and community what they need to know to support her children and others. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Robyn and Josh and their children for a number of years now and they all reflect the unity and resilience of a strong military (and any category) family. Congratulations, Robyn, for being recognized as the Military Spouse of the Day, and the wonder woman that you are!
