Proudly Supporting all Military Families with a Special Needs Dependent
Introducing Katie Womack Buller, Coast Guard spouse, currently stationed in Boston, MA. Katie and her husband Jay have been married for 13 wonderful years. She enjoys getting to see other parts of the country and new places that they get to travel and experience. The best part of being a military spouse is meeting new friends.
Katie is an adult with special needs and we asked her how her disability has impacted her family. She says, “Becoming a paraplegic has drastically changed a lot of things. From having to modify our home, and having the kids take on so much responsibility. I have relearned a lot ways to do things such as driving and ways to clean. My husband has been the rock to hold us together when I had my moments of despair.”
The best advice Katie would give other special needs families is to become best friends with your Tricare advocate and continue to push hard at things you think you need or want pertaining to your disability.
The Military Special Needs Network honors and salutes Kirstin Horne as the Military Spouse of the Day! We thank you for being such a wonderful military spouse and an amazing advocate.
